Body Image refers to the way in which an individual sees their own body and perceives themselves to be attractive. It also includes their attitude and beliefs about their own body.
Social media can have a significant impact on body image, both positive and negative. And social media plays a crucial role in harbouring negative beliefs about their body
with unrealistic expectations and create a negative body image.
Our self-worth, self-esteem, confidence, how we interact with the outside world, and the goals we establish and accomplish are all impacted by how we view our bodies. Our Chennai Chapter hosted a compelling panel discussion on the topic of Body Image - Does Social Media Really Help? on June 18, 2023, to shed further light on this subject.
Dr. Prithika Chary - a Life, Brain, and Resilience coach, Dr. Janani Palanivel - a Dermatologist, Aruna Das - a Senior Image Consultant, and Suhani Jain - a Soft Skills Trainer, were among the panelists. The impact of body image on people and how it affects their daily lives, confidence, as well as goals were discussed along with professional tips and research data. It was superbly moderated by Sinthuja Martin, IMPA Chennai Chapter President, and backed by Bakiyarathi Ravindranath, Secretary of the IMPA Chennai Chapter.
It was a highly enlightening session and well received by all the participants.
