Calico Museum Visit

The IMPA Ahmedabad Chapter organised an experiential learning visit to the Calico Museum of Textiles, Ahmedabad, with the objective of deepening members’ understanding of India’s rich textile heritage and enhancing their aesthetic sensibility as image professionals.

Set in a serene haveli-style environment surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil pond, the museum offered an immersive experience from the very beginning. Guided through the Chauk Galleries, members explored textiles from Mughal and regional courts, export textiles, costumes, regional embroideries, and tie-dyed textiles. The visit showcased magnificent royal tents, centuries-old sarees with vibrant colours, intricate embroideries, and garments worn by royalty, reflecting India’s rich craftsmanship and historic trade connections with regions such as Bali and Myanmar. The extraordinary artistry using natural dyes and traditional techniques left members deeply inspired.

The visit concluded with a warm gesture from the museum staff, who served chai and boiled peanuts. Members later gathered at Natrani Café for an informal meet, encouraging reflections, conversations, and meaningful chapter bonding. It was especially heartening to see new members Nairobi and Tejashree feel warmly welcomed, making the visit both enriching and memorable for all.
